This piece went to the Children's Book Society 13th annual student exhibition, held at the DMC in Detroit. The assignment was to choose a children's book cover, and remake it.  I chose "The Last Unicorn" because I liked this story, and I wanted to try painting a horse, which I have never done before. My final piece is shown below, and some process work that I had along the way.
These value studies show how I added a bit too much green in my wash for the final background, a happy mistake on my part. Since I do not plan on going into children's book cover design, I wanted to be able to make a piece that showed my realistic approach to my paintings, and that was also friendly for the children at the DMC.
