Hidden treasures of creativity
- Edvard Munch Contest -

Imagine being able to use the brushes once wielded by a master like Edvard Munch. From the vaults of the Oslo Munch museum they have now been digitally recreated for you to use. How might they inspire your own creativity?

Edvard Munch's "The Scream of Nature" invites it's viewers to a moment of drama and imagination. The painting pictures a figure on a walkway screaming towards the viewer with a dreamlike landscape in the background. To me, this scene has always been rather exciting, inviting and mysterious. Why the scream? Whats with the setting? Who are the figures in the back?

When Adobe launched this contest I was excited, both by the topic and head artist in question, but also because Kyle T. Webster had made a set of brushes for which to use to recreate the style and feeling of Edvard Munch. I've followed Kyle for some time now and I am truly grateful for his contribution to the art stage and it's technology. It's an amazing thing, to enhance the digital toolbox like that. I've continuously looked at the wonderful pieces of art on Behance and they are all amazing! Go check them out!
For my contribution to this contest I have decided to focus on the identity of the main character. To bring my questions regarding the painting to the surface. To me, a scream like the one Edvard Munch painted, is a battle. A struggle within oneself. To isolate that scream and enhance the imagined feeling of the character, whilst all other props outside in reality becomes irrelevant. How we express our thoughts and how our inner conversations are narrated are important tools for us.
During this whole process I've only used two brushes (Filbert & Short Flat Blender) and the gradient tool. I've worked in Photoshop CC 2017 and have used my trusted
Wacom Intous pro tablet. I've taken great practical inspiration from "The Scream of Nature" in form of palette.
If you want to take part in this contest you can download these brushes for free and get going! Just visit this website for more information. Good luck!
