Este es un libro sobre el trabajo del director japonés Hayao Miyazaki, donde exploré la dicotomía que existe entre sus maneras tradicionales de hacer las cosas y la progresividad de la manera en la que cuenta sus historias.
Para ilustrar su amor por lo hecho a mano, usé diferentes técnicas japonesas antiguas como el tipo de encuadernado y la caligrafía con tinta, cuyo sentimiento inherente traté de capturar cuando lo trasladé a un idioma diferente. También incorporé acetatos en el formato para dar el sentimiento de animación tradicional hecha a mano con celuloides, algo que le gusta mucho a Miyazaki.
This is an art book about the work of japanese director Hayao Miyazaki where I explored the dichotomy of his traditional ways and the progressiveness of his storytelling.
To illustrate his love for the handcrafted, I used different ancient japanese techniques, like bookbinding and ink calligraphy, which inherent feeling I tried to capture when translating it to a new language. I also incorporated cells into the format to give the sense of traditional handmade animation, which Miyazaki is so deeply fond of.
