Monster Mountain - Artbook

«When the mountain first began to form, humanity overlooked the alteration in their ever changing, chaotic world. Years past, and the mountain grew, towering higher with each passing year till finally all sunlight was torn from sight, plunging the earth into permanent darkness in the shadow of the behemoth…
And in the shadows, man became monster.»

During the second half of 2014 I teamed up with a bunch of talented game developers and we founded Funky Panda Games, a new Mobile/Social Gaming startup based in London.

At first, during the first months and being the only artist in the team, I was in charge of all the visual aspects of the studio: Art Direction, Logo Design, Character Design and Character Animation.
Apart from the original Art Direction, I also had the opportunity of writing the story from scratch of the first IP of the studio: Monster Mountain, a Role Playing Game for mobile devices set in an enchanting world of dark fantasy.

Monster Mountain won the Best Role Playing Game TIGA Award 2016.

In this story the role of antagonist is taken by a dark Mountain controlling the fate of the planet. Monster Mountain incarnates the evil side of the human, its sadness and its fear. And as a counterpoint in the leading role the little Rusty Rain, a child architect whose only aspiration is to restore his city and to return the sunlight to the planet.
As a matter of fact, I actually wrote the story of Monster Mountain based on a little comic I published in a cultural magazine when I was a teenager, back in 2007.
I set the story of this video game on the same existing foundations of this little fable that I did in the past because I was very much interested in communicating its optimistic and uplifting premise to the players.
This is how this tale begins.
