Three A6 books describe the tale “Floors” through the use of different languages (illustrations and types) and paper. This short story describes the life inside a house: people arrive and leave. Without the chronological sequence of events been described. It can be very descriptive both on a physical or conceptual level.
1. Black and white illustrations
The acetate sheets allow the reader to see the actions described in the novel at the same time.
Through the pages of the book it’s possible to see the different levels.
The final white page create a break in the flow of the story, showing an opposite “non-schematic“ situation.
2. Black and white typography
The second booklet, printed on a pinstripe paper, tries to represent the contents of the tale with a visual use of the typography. Two different fonts and several body sizes have been used. These elements with a particular disposition of the text in the pages influence the rhythm of reading.
3.Typography and illustration
The last version of “Floors” mixes images and typography: drawings became abstract arousing feeling; they do not need anymore to represent the text physically. Pages are cut horizontally: in this way the sequence of the story is broken and recreated every time the book is read.
