'The Black Monk'

An illustration project based on the short story 'The Black Monk' by Anton Chekhov; the brief was to pick a story by Anton Chekhov and respond to it with black and white images only. I used ink, masking fluid and old books to create images that captured the eerie tones of the book and the underlying themes of madness and insanity. I turned the images into a concertina book shown below and also extended the project to create a stop frame animation using the imagery that I'd made.
