CONCRETE MONUMENTS

The buildings of this Norwegian dam project on the edge of a glacier lake, standing out against an almost monochrome wall of clouds and fog, is reminiscent of a backdrop in a dark science fiction movie. The fast-changing weather will gradually expose the view onto other buildings. In those few moments, it was hard to distinguish between aesthetic and functional elements, which enhanced the already surreal quality of this place.
Concrete Monuments is a series about modern industrial architecture around the dam at the glacial lake Styggevatnet / Austdalsvatnet in western Norway. I was really drawn to the surreal and almost cinematic look of these places with all the snow and dark rocks surrounding them. Some of the buildings did not reveal their function to me, which made exploring even more fascinating.
