INTROSPECTO

databending art / 2016-2017

This project is, as the name suggests (from lat. introspecto – look inside), a kind of exploration of inner experiences during the transition period of artist’s life, when dramatic changes began and it seemed to get out of control. Artist uses glitch photos of long-dead people, the so-called retro photos. The concept of the project is a composite view to photography, departing from the traditional, familiar to people by getting images “out of control”. We used to believe that retro photography is a kind of unshakable story, monuments to long-gone people, but at the same time looking through them, there is a thought like - why not break the stereotype of intactness and not make these photos more dynamic by databending? Some of the people pictured in the photos have acquired a movement, as if they began to tell a story about themselves and its incredible how compositional experiments help to understand an object even when there is no chance to study it more.

The beautiful girls depicted in these photos acquire dynamics by distortion and do not cease to be beautiful by this, on the contrary acquiring meaning and it’s look like they are bare themselves not only physically.

I noticed how errors are that in real life, that in virtual it's not always bad and help to look at yourself from the inside. This work can be perceived quite ambiguously, and I heard different interpretations and feelings of people looking at it. It's really interesting how the distortions in photos can give the image not only movement and meaning, but even "sound".
