"The Wrath of Kali"

"The Wrath of Kali"
Kali is the first and foremost among Mahavidya's. According to yogini tantra, Devi Parvati assumed this form to slay a demon called Ghorasura. Seeing this form, Lord shiva requested kali to enlighten him by placing a foot on his chest. Devi then uttered a loud laughter (during which her tongue stuck out) and placed her foot on shiva's chest.
However, according to the popular mass view, the wrath of kali, even after killing the asura was so great, that she went on a reckless killing spree and wreaking widespread havoc. In order to counter this destruction, shiva (her husband) came in to lie down on her path. As soon as, she realised that she placed a foot on her husband, her tongue came out in reflex, thereby calming her anger.
The image of kali represents that if we can keep our tongue in check, the other organs like limbs, eyes, ears, nose can also be easily controlled.
