Film details:
WISH is an avant-garde musical fable, featuring two world renowned dancers, bound by fate, to contemplate fear, love and an ultimate regret. Filmed as an open air stage play in the woods with an original score composed by Danny Elfman to be part of the Rabbit and Rogue competition.
Story:
A lonely ballerina wishes on a magic star for a companion to love forever. The next morning a male robot appears at her door, holding a basket of large wind-up keys. The woman learns that the wind-up keys bring the robot to life, but only temporarily.
At first she is annoyed by his robotic movements and resentful of the man she was sent. She begs the magic star for a real man, but none arrive. She resigns herself to accepting the mechanical moving robot by making him her servant. Overtime she teaches the robot to move more fluidly, and the two fall in love.
One day the woman goes to pick up a wind-up key, and realizes it is the last one. Fearful of having to say goodbye to her love she hesitates to use the last key.
Many years go by and the woman does not use the last key out of fear of losing her love. Eventually she begins to age and falls deathly ill. Nearing death, she decides to enjoy one last dance with her beloved. She turns the last key and learns that it was enchanted. The last key turns the robot into a real man.
The two enjoy their last day together in a state of sorrowful bliss. The woman dies, regretting not having turned the last key sooner. Her fear of losing love kept her from enjoying the lasting love she always desired.
