Esquerdats (Cracked) book

This project’s main topic are the emotional wounds. The emotion is psychology and neuroscience study material. It is a process that is activated when the organism detects a potential hazard to launch the available resources to control the situation. That is, they are impulses to act. Everybody has had, has and will have emotions; it is a concept that we know but we do not control. All the emotions are valid, they are not good or bad. The only ones that are bad are the ones that are stagnant. That is why the negative emotions must be expressed. It is impossible to disconnect or avoid them. What if we dared to show our wounds? Why are we so afraid to do so? How could we define what we feel in a tangible manner? What if expressing myself I draw people in or push them away?

At the beginning of the project the topic was in the same field but was different. So I started investigating introversion, as I wanted to explain a feeling that was making my head turn and that was relating with this feature. Due to this, one of the first references is Carl Jung (1875-1961), psychologist known for its theory of introversion and extraversion. Additionally, I realised that introversion was not what I wanted to define, so I kept investigating. Going through the psychologist Hans Eysenck (1916-1997), and its personality model; the Big Five Model, by the educational psychologist Jennifer Grimes; and the doctor Elaine Aron and her “Highly Sensitive aPerson” concept or HSP. This last concept was the triggered by feeling things very strongly. Even though everybody feels to a greater or lesser extent. That is what I wanted to talk about in my project, emotions and how we process them, inflicted wounds kept in our memory which model us and make us who we are.

The content of the project are 48 collages divided in four big blocks, chosen to facilitate their graphic interpretation: childhood wounds, love wounds, social setting wounds and self-inflicted wounds. These collages are found within a publication in which the thread is an interview to a family who dares to open up completely. The aim is to make the spectators reflect if they wish to do so, there is nothing wrong about being vulnerable, breaking down barriers, in fact, it can open many doors and it can help people create more meaningful bonds with their environment.
