I did this portrait of my father with digital brushes I downloaded from Kyle T. Webster.
I started with a rough sketch.
Added some shading with a watercolor brush
Added some definition by refining adding detail
I added a layer with a dark gray as an underpainting foundation.
I added a layer with mid-tone values and some texture
Added some lighter values
Added highlights and background - final
Animation shows transition from layer to layer
