2D/3D Character wireframes and development process

Character development of Kerching robot dog "Lucky"
I start by creating wireframes in illustrator, testing different positions and base colours.
Once happy with the chose positions I outline the stroke and trim the vectors so only one solid line runs around the edge of the character.
Finally I colour each panel in Photoshop and create clipping mask layers to add the lighting and shading. Updating the colour pallet as I go.
For the finished character I increased the hue and saturation and documented the numerical values on the colour scale. This ensured the colours would match on every character position.
As the characters face is a screen we also use him to show offers and information.
For VIP I updated the K to gold to help differentiate the class of the player without changing the overall look too much.
Original shapes in vectors (all strokes)
Refined singular line path in vectors (no strokes)
Final finished design of Lucky.
