"Yes We Can (2017)" by Julian Perry.

One of my most recent pieces, I choose to do my modern day interpretation of the Iconic "Rosie the Riveter" print. I chose Misty Copeland to represent the new "Rosie" because her story is one I have paid attention to and as the first African American Female Principal Dancer for a Ballet Theater she seemed to embody everything I was looking to represent. This was an independent project that branched from my recent figurative work.

This is the most "political" piece I have done to date and a direction I would very much like to take my work in. A teacher once told me that "The success of a piece isn't how long someone stands in front of your work, but for how long they think about it". Hopefully something about this piece makes you stop, think and feel something. I sincerely hope you enjoy.
