"Wonder Women"
Drawn with fabercastell polychromous colored pencils on top of a colored ink and watercolor underpainting.
I've been reading comic books since I was a wee young pup, and somehow the knowledge of a black Wonder Woman completely eluded me. Created in 1973, Nubia(horrible name, lol), was created from the same clay as Diana, just a darker clay, and is her equal. She's no longer a character used in DC's current continuity but wow I wish she was.
I was introduced to her by a far superior illustration by Marcus Williams (@marcusthevisual) on instagram, and I gotta tell ya, Representation is a powerful thing. I stared at that masterpiece like it was the Monalisa. It's kind of amazing how art can find a way to affect you.
So after staring that his illustration for an indeterminate amount of time I was inspired to create my own Version of the Black Wonder Woman. To match Gal Gadot I modeled mine after Lupita Nyongo because she's similar in build as Gadot, albeit shorter, and I think she has a regal quality that seems fitting as the sister to Princess Diana.
I know this won't be happening on the big screen anytime soon, but it should. Bring her back DC!
