Personal Identity artwork
For this project I created an artwork reflecting my personality. The books I read, the movies I watch, the music I listen to are all woven into a visual language of this piece - they are creating a pattern. I explored relief printing techniques and combined it with mixed media. I am very fascinated with African patterns and what they represent. I have created my own pattern that is made out of all the parts that make me.
Fascinated about the repetition of the patterns I also then decided to repeat the figures. The figure is an outline of myself and the normal way I dress to school and work. The back is always a part of me, I take it where ever I go.
The end project was a horrible mistake which got better as I placed in more and more layers to the figure.
Then I did some patterns with pencil crayons which I got inspired by the Xhosa, Zulu and Ndebele. I'm Xhosa speaking and I chose to include the other cultures is to show that I live in a diverse country.
From the extra bits of the marly tile I then mage embossing patterns and enhanced that with small simple pattern lines around then to bring them out.
This is a test print I made before I did the final which I then included some color pencil markings into the white spaces. I then Cut out the figure from white paper then stuck it into brown paper.
Thanks for watching and your appreciation!
