This project is for a limited edition vinyl release of the album Good. Kid. M.a.a.d. City by the hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar. This album was chosen because of the underlying story of a day in the life of K.Dot, a teenager from Compton trying to discover his own identity while battling maturation and gang violence. This story is not presented to the listener in chronological order but there is a definitive cohesiveness to the music and is interlaced with tracks exploring the mind of Kendrick as a teen and also as an adult. The graphic novel included in this project lays out this story in an easily digestible manner and will help the reader navigate through the story while listening to the music. The record sleeve is both a nod toward the original album artwork and to the theme of gang violence in Compton. The use of the type on the vinyls add an element of exclusivity to the piece as the buyer will not know which graphic they will get until they have opened it.
