Design Prompt
Design an information graphic that utilizes various design systems in relation to a personally determined topic surrounding the theme of water.

Poster Concept
This poster seeks to explain how the goldfish came to exist, not through natural events but through human intervention. It also seeks to explain that, although they are often viewed as a disposable pet, goldfish have actually been an art form for thousands of years and have a rich and detailed history.

The final poster is 31 x 52 inches.

Numbers above each goldfish correlate to the timeline on the right side of the poster, which provides details on their estimated time of creation, location of creation, and when they were exported to other countries.

Process
The process began with research and data collection, followed by thumbnail sketches of potential layouts for the information. These thumbnails were further explored in detail and a larger sketch was selected as the final layout concept.

Each of the 17 goldfish were first sketched in pencil, traced onto trace paper and redrawn symmetrically, and then drawn again and hand painted using water color.
