McDonalds reached out to us in April and asked us to create a 20s spot to introduce their new product which featuring the minions from Despicable Me. The core idea was to have the potato minions happily dancing around and reveal the Big Breakfast set, Hot Cakes and the Minions Potato. At first McDonald wanted the spot to be done in live action. We suggested to do it in full 3D as that would give more flexibility in terms of animation. We spent a lot of time developing different styles and approaches to the minions movement. The movements define the characteristic of the minions. Since our minions are potato minions, we needed to use the movements and sounds to link it with the original minions.
