200 - A book exploring Ireland's Mental Health History

The project original began with photos taken from different psychiatric hospitals around Ireland. This particular photo was taken at Portrane Psychiatric Hospital in the North of Dublin, where I had a family spend most of their life after suffering a head injury.
All images drawn for the book were done with a Wacom tablet through Adobe Photoshop. A lot of the initial source images taken from trips to various psychiatric hospitals around Ireland fed into the designs.
Each spread in the book would contain an illustration that accompanied a quote from each year in the book along with a footnote for the source of the original quote. The book would act as a timeline for Ireland's history with mental health services and issues.
Each century had it's own double spread illustration.
The book was printed on cyclus paper to give it a more 'aged' appearance to compliment the imagery more.
Every quote through the book had the source listed. These sources came from letters, government meetings, newspaper articles, personal accounts, etc. Most came from the national archive in Dublin City.
The cover of the book was done through embossing and just featured the book's title, to coincide with the minimal design of the book.
These red, white and black posters were done to further promote the book.
