What Makes A Home

Photography

In February 2010, my best friend Justin Flythe was diagnosed with lymphoma. This series of photographs documents the journey to recovery that Justin and his family faced. The Flythe family deals with much adversity; from Justin’s cancer diagnosis to his grandmother’s battle with ALS, and smaller battles between. Regardless of the situation, the Flythe’s remain positive, and still function as a family should through the good and the bad. Their family is one rooted in heritage and steeped in tradition. The concept of home is not a just a place, but a state of mind and a way of life, and they encapsulate these concepts perfectly. I hope this album serves as a reminder to them as well as to others that you should never forget your roots, and as a family you can conquer anything.

This project has been updated to include family photos to compare and contrast what all has and hasn't changed. A pdf of it, in a work in progress book format can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/l5zqpl4hv5sfh4i/wmahbook2.pdf
