Concrete surface experiments
Anamamrete project is a series of experiments with the aim of humanizing concrete. Throughout the experiments, I am focusing on the possibilities of overcoming the negative stereotypes associated with concrete and how to create a new, more pleasant and softer look for a generally industrial material. Another aim is to offer alternatives of innovative concrete wall coverings with new visual experience for interior designers.
I have made more than 140 experiments divided into three groups which are the followings: coloring concrete, material coupling and mould experiments.
As a part of my project, I showed my experiments to people from different fields. They were asked how their opinions had changed about concrete after seeing and touching the innovative cubes and tiles. I also circulated a survey about their feelings and insights and I used this feedback to define the potential use of each experiment and also to summarize the human reactions.
As architecture, design and materials around us and our environments are powerful ways to shape cultural values and they could also have a strong impact on our mood and behavior, I think innovation and experimental practice are truly important and indispensable in the contemporary design culture. These innovative surfaces could be used for example as wall coverings, room dividers, kitchen/bathroom counters or reception desks.
