I started this project hoping to challenge stereotypes, I chose the issue of women in S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. Everybody is interested in the unknown and the discovery of new things, which is the objective of science based fields. Yet the majority of people who work within these subjects are male, why? Representation is a key factor in lowering internalised stereotypes and I don’t just mean through characters on a screen, there are plenty of real women that have overcome great obstacles and paved a way for other women and have achieved amazing feats in stem fields. Yet we rarely hear about these women often they are hidden away and unaccredited for their findings and achievements. I wanted to bring the awesomeness of these women to light.
