Interior Installations
Thevessels here reflect my fascination with archetypal ceramic forms and thepalpable sense of presence that large pots emanate. I aspire to make pieces that feel alive, and thatpeople want to approach and interact with. Theunglazed surfaces I favor point toward what is most elemental in the materialand the forms and offer a tactile dimension to appreciation of the work.
Ilook at good pots from all periods and cultures wherever I can, and theimpressions I take away are inevitably transmuted -- by imperfect memory, byimagination and by a contemporary sensibility. The defining influence that inevitably links my work withhistorical and traditional forms is the material’s inherent tendencies andlimitations: The clay itself suggests the forms it is suited to.
