Information Design for Bus Terminals

The bus stops in the city, Ahmedabad are in utter need of face-lift in terms of information.
On one hand the state talks about developments upfront but there are problems in the backyard unresolved. The newly designed BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) by the government has shadowed the current AMTS (Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service)ignoring the fact majority of people use the local transport as BRTS doesn't connect to every facets of the city.

My intent is to propose a information design model. The basic information about bus routes/numbers has to be organised in a decent manner.Emphasis remains on the visual enhancement of information in terms of visibility, readability & accuracy.Through, integration of bus route maps with information to make it easily interpretable. Deploying global positioning system (gps) in the buses; which are inter-connected to the bus stops for accurate bus schedules.

However, when you design in the Indian context the fear remains of transformation of the designed space into undesired use! Through my field research I could see the transformation of space & its meaning over time ! Dogs sleeping over the bus stops, few turned into garbage spots, people using it as toiletry, people hanging clothes to dry & more were few of the sites.

Currently my research revolves around figuring out ways as in :
" What does a community do to keep the place clean ?"

Intent is to think about the final product in terms of how the product is going to solve the reverse of the 'process' which comes from the 'problem'.
