Impress Magazine

Impress: Commercial Interior Design Magazine
The following Commercial Interior Design Magazine was designed for the unit DXB302 – Typographic Design in collaboration with Alicia Shorey, Ebony Patman and Jessica Greentree. The given brief required that we work in groups of four to create, design and produce a printed magazine that explored a nominated field of design. Each group therefore had to establish a coherent aesthetic, layout and style to implement across all pages of the magazine to create a cohesive publication.

With our magazine, Inpress, having a commercial interior design focus, it was logical to create a design that appealed to and would be read by designers working within this industry. Data sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed that 65.7 percent of practicing interior designers are aged between 25 and 44, hence the decision to adopt a contemporary aesthetic. It was also found that 72.7% percent of interior designers are female; hence the reason for the magazine’s elegant and minimalistic design style.
As illustrated below, Inpress can be described as a contemporary publication that presents the content in a sophisticated yet professional manner. The design is elegant and minimalistic in style, features striking, coherent images well suited to the chosen subject matter and contains an adequate amount of white space; all purposefully chosen to appeal to the identified target market.
Please note that the images featured within the magazine have not been created by the magazine’s designers but have been obtained from online sources; the references for which are listed on the Credits pages. Furthermore, with the focus of the task being primarily upon page layout, composition and typographic treatment, the actual text content was irrelevant; which encouraged some contributors to falsify or replicate included details.
