Use a toothbrush with soft bristles
When you are expecting, make sure to use a softer toothbrush. Gums swell during the pregnancy mainly due to pregnancy gingivitis. So, if you brush or floss like normal days, you are more likely to get the bleeding started from your gums. The main two causes for development of this gingivitis are hormonal change and increase in the amount of bacteria in plaque.
Ensure better care of your gums
According to a study, periodontal disease during pregnancy can play ample role in premature birth and low birth weight of the child. Along with periodontal disease, gingivitis and tooth decay are also the ailments that can affect the overall health of a mom-to-be. However, there is a simple solution to this problem. You need to make sure that you floss regularly.
Go to the dentist more often
Women usually are more worried about getting dental x-ray while being pregnant. However, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists declares it harmless for pregnant women to get dental x-ray. Nevertheless, if you are still not convinced about x-ray, you should ask your dentist to clear any doubts from mind. As a matter of fact, getting the dental health fully examined can eventually leave healthy effects on baby as you will be able to counter any dental problem beforehand.
Don’t forget to brush twice a day

The level of acidity is usually higher during pregnancy. This acidity can promote gingivitis which can further lead to tooth decay and gum diseases. Moreover, the acidity also gets higher because of vomiting due to morning sickness. Fortunately, brushing is a sufficient solution when it comes to treating acidity and gingivitis in developmental stages due to acidity.
Healthy diet

Healthy diet is good for you and your baby. So never overlook the importance of eating healthy foods. Here, you will also have to make sure that the diet you take doesn’t affect your dental health. For instance, high consumption of sugar can lead to the serious issues with teeth. Instead, you can have vegetables and fruits with vitamins and phosphorus as regular meals.
