happy?

happy? invites the viewer to try some casual life-logging. This piece is an interactive web based application that asks the user to input some simple ratings that it will use to calculate their ‘happiness’ based on their own self-assessment and also through some clinically accepted scales for measuring this abstract concept. Their results are then plotted on a circular graph using processing3, alongside the daily average (based on overall user interaction).

The international happiness index for Ireland is also generated, which stands in 2017 at 6.977 out of 10. The user is able to tweet their experience afterwards from the @QuantifyQuality twitter account.

Quantify over Quality

Whether it’s happening consciously or unconsciously, almost every aspect of modern life is being measured. Why is this information collected and what is it used for? Through experimental life-logging, this project looks at what insights can be gleaned from such activities, with a particular emphasis on measuring an abstract concept – happiness.
