Anaheez Karbhari's profile

In this self-initiated piece I wanted to speak to the taboos and stereotypes made about South Asian women, by further exaggerating them in my photographs. I captured myself in my grandmother's sari (ethnic Indian wear for women) with these "typical brown objects" to create an antique vs. contemporary juxtaposition, I want viewers to see the way I'm framing these standards and expectations made, because these are older standards that don't necessarily tie in with contemporary culture.

After it's first display the 2017 Graduating Class Exhibition, this piece was published in an advertisement (see below) for the University of Toronto's Art & Art History Program in the Winter 2018 issues of Canadian Art and C Magazines.
