Sydney City Foreshore Walkway

The Sydney Foreshore Cultural Walkway system was in response to a brief from the City of Sydney Council. My project proposes a cohesive navigational system along the Sydney city foreshore, incorporating physical and digital wayfinding, transcending traditional methods of mapping.

I prototyped a contemporary re-imagination of the mapping systems currently in place, with a strong connection to a digital platform and an educationally enriching storytelling system honouring the layered history of Sydney.

Photographed below is the map in printed form, as well as an imagined installation on the Stargazer Lawn in
the Barangaroo reserve.
Concept images of a physical installation of the foreshore map, which would allow users to walk over it, touch it and interact with it, creating a memorable user experience. Aesthetics of the map are drawn from connotations of the word ‘stargazer’, and tiny LED lights would illuminate the map for night-time accessibility.
Additionally, a web interaction is accessible to users via smartphone, allowing them to navigate using a digital version of the map. Points of interest (both historical and current) are indicated on the map as well as through icons on the footpath, pictured below.
