Introduction
The controversial bookstore is a small bookstore created using the book medium.
The name of the book is the controversial bookstore because many of the books in it deal with topics that are ignored and buried in modern society.
In today’s world, there are various people living, but in contrast, many of them are not ready to embrace other people and truly live together as a unity. As a result, women, sexual minorities, and various other social weaknesses are emerging. And the social problems of them do not appear frequently in the public space, and even if they are mentioned, they are buried under the disregard of numerous vested interests.
So, I wanted to make a platform for many people to read the books presented here and to face various discriminations that they were unaware of, and to cooperate with the externals.
Content strategy and composition
The contents consisted of an index page with a large collection of books, an essay collection of each category, and a detailed introduction to each book.Through this, I wanted to show the meaning of each book by showing the overall mood by showing the words of each of the categories first, followed by showing the covers of the corresponding books first, and introducing the books one by one.
Process-Research of books
In order to find various books to introduce, I refer to the recommended book list of the independent bookstores that only deal with LGBT books among the bookstores in Korea, and I also browse the books that have been searched for various keywords related to themes in large bookstores. Also, there were some independent bookstores that recommended books every month, which I got many help from. I had to find reviews from various internet sites and acquaintances because there was not enough time to read all the books.
Process-Contents and Layout
The whole design was mainly type-oriented. In the case of images, it was used only to introduce the book, so as to reduce the scattered elements and focus on the cover and introduction of the book as much as possible. In addition, I tried to induce the interest by making the title of the book bold so that the text ,containing the characteristic and theme of each book, comes first in the eye.
At the entrance of the category, I tried to show in a condensed way how the minorities are treated in society by quoting the famous verses of the book or the book. And on the right page, I tried to give some hints about the topic using a way of placing keywords of the main theme.

Through this book, I hope that a lot of people can get the chance of knowing problems(문제, 사안) about social minorities. Cases about minorities were very difficult to find, and even if there is a case, it was mainly about discriminating and suppressing the social weaknesses. That means there’s still a long way to finally reach the human equality. Nevertheless, there are people that constantly try to be in solidarity and give chance to those who don’t realize that the words and thoughts they use can hurt others. And for that reason, I believe there’s hope. Even if the bookstore can only make trivial changes, I believe that the small difference can help others get the attention on the problems of minirities. And if that happens, I think this book has achieved it’s own goal.
