This project is a response from my dissertation question ‘From Paste Up to Place File’. I studied the Development of Digital Design from 1984-1994 and decided the best way to celebrate this study was to create an outcome that was entirely print based. My research into April Greiman and her beliefs was the core concept of this idea. She embraced the digital era instead of ignoring it and sticking to what she knows the best, print. So I thought that I could do the same, but embrace the print era, it’s all about Role Reversal.

I have called this publication ‘Minus the Mac’, which is very literal, but true. It’s a concertina book which expresses Lino printing and Letterpress. Everything I have done to create this concertina book has been done by hand. From the cutting of the Lino to the printing of letters and the making of the physical publication.

The book expresses 8 different quotes from 8 different designers who experienced the change from print to digital. I have picked out key words from each quote and expressed their point through Lino visuals. To go with this concertina, I have also created a POV process book to show various stages of my development, and what I had to go through to create this book.
