Brief. Typography and information visualisation. Choose an article and a dataset which is relevant to the concept of a trend or craze, such as fashion, toys, furniture, food, dance, music, language etc. It can be playful, serious, quirky, historical or contemporary. This data will be mapped using information visualisation technique such as maps, graphs, charts etc. The article you have chosen must be integrated in anyway you see fit into your design and requires strong typesetting skills.
Respond. My data visualisation focused on the globally recognizable toy; Mattel’s Barbie doll. Several relevant Barbie doll fad concept data sets and archives were found and used to create 5 x A3 posters on 250 GSM colourtech paper. The accompanying article has been set into an A4 book. The tenor of my visual communication is simplistic, fun and informative. My book has been designed to communicate the fashionable, feminine appearance of Barbie.
