CISCO interactive installation pitch

// CISCO Interactive installation concepts

In 2015 we worked with the software development team over at PNDLM to build a pitch for an interactive installation piece, to be located at CISCO's WHQ. Campus guests would be invited to play a game which simulated a "threat" that needed to be neutralized using deployed packets. Users would move through the environment, toward indicator points that would glow red, letting them know to move in that direction. By fixing the Unity camera to a rail, once a threat would be touched on screen, the camera would lock to that object and advance the user deeper into new levels of the map.

We built in 5 levels(views) to the game: World view, Regional view, City view, Server view, and The Core view, which is where the threat resided. Once the users reached the core, they would deploy packets that neutralized the threat. Changing the red back to green or blue, depending on playing Scenario 1 or Scenario 2.

The project utilized a mixture of animations from Cinema 4D that could be triggered in Unity while the user moved through on environment, controlled by a 7ft glass screen/table hybrid. The table could fit up to 6 participants at the same time, assessing the threat and controlling the camera movement as a team. Scenarios would be scalable depending on the number of players, which would change the controller's UI layout.

Animation sequences were exported from C4D into Unity, where we could shift between states depending if the user triggered an event. We textured the meshes using Unity Standard materials, mainly focusing on emission and Fresnel reflections to style the scenes.

The initial design for The Core was done entirely in Touch Designer, which required us to export point data into C4D. This was the first time we had used both Touch Designer and Unity for a project. We look forward to integrating the software into future workflows!
