We were tasked with creating a Font Flag and Specimen sheet for a well-known Font such as: Garamond, Futura, Zapfino, etc. The poster will display the Font flag which displays in detail the beauty and intricacy of the typeface whereas the back of the poster will describe the family, origin and such like as, in a Type specimen sheet.
With this assignment I chose to work with the Edwardian Script. My initial idea for this was to represent the Edwardian script in a way that is completely opposite to the scripts personality and the way it is usually represented. In other words my aim was to disrupt the Edwardian script and remove the dainty, supremely feminine, formal and the extravagantly elegant personality and try and portray it in a way that does not remind one of, weddings or women's magazines but instead represent it in a way that reminds one of ancient death threats.
I chose to do this by paring the text with grunge like texture and dark colours uncommonly used with the typeface. However the ending result was a different portrayal of the typeface but what I have learnt is that even though the grunge characteristics were on the font flag it still managed to retain a bit of its clean elegant personality and its church like feel and I believe it was beneficial to the whole appearance of the project as it adds a funeral obituary feel to it which coincides with the death threat theme.
