Smithsonian Folkways recently acquired Arhoolie Records’ collection of North American regional music. Arhoolie Records is known for capturing North American regional music in the time and place that it exists. Arhoolie Records captures new artists, who may be popular, and their regional music. The artist Fred McDowell has a lot to offer, which is why I wanted to broaden the audience and break the appeal. The type used is a metaphor for the music that he plays, which is soft country blues. On the front and back cover some type is small and hidden to show McDowell as an up and coming artist and that was found late in life at the age of fifty five. Then, on the inside the type is more clean and organized to show that McDowell was finally found and is being recognized as an artist.
