EDGE OF TIME - Wall Clock

The Edge of Time - Wall Clock Design
The brief for this project required me to design a new style of clock that "creatively tells the time". In order to complete this project, I had to research past and present designs as sources of inspiration. I then created several concepts. The most promising of these concepts eventually became this design.

The final designs were created in SolidWorks, then rendered using Keyshot.
The brief for this project requires a standard quartz electric mechanism is used to power the clock. This design utilises planetary gears system to transfer the power of the quartz motor into rotating the immense minute hand. The arm rotates once every hour, while notches on the outer ring gear show the passing of each minute. The hour of the day is simultaneously shown on the digital display located on the end of the minute hand.
A rendering showing the scale and size of my design.
The intent of my design was create a timepiece that is noninvasive. Time is ever-present, but it need not be intrusive. If you need to tell the time, this design is easily capable. Alternatively, if one wishes, they may see this clock as a kinetic sculpture instead.
An exploded view of the design, showing all the components of my clock and how they interact.
Every part of my design was modelled using SolidWorks. Mechanical parts, such as the gears, are based on components from the SW toolbox. All the components of this design have functional mating and interact with no interference detection.
