in this project I was given a paper string with the following words "Excitement, Calcutta, Hesse, 205 and spectrum yellow". I was asked to create five final images containing all the words with one of them predominant each time.
I was encourged to present the images in the format of a book or a CD.
205: The yellow shape is the outline of the number 205, created in Illustrator. There is an artwork by an artist to represent excitement, the old Indian flag to represent Calcutta. The brownish curves are the binding of a book and represent Hesse.
CALCUTTA: in this photo, the predominant image is that of Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun and missionary who devoted her life to the poor people of Calcutta, sharing with them everything. Her eye is that of a steppenwolf (Hesse). At the background, Italian playing cards can be seen and they reproduce the number 205 (2 cups - 5 swords ). Also the yellow is visible.
EXCITEMENT: The colourful composition is symbolises excitement. Also, the orange patches are the result of manipulation of the photo of an event in an Italian village, where colourful paper lanterns are burned during Carnival (see photo in the moodboard).
The cards on a white background are the Indian (Calcutta) writing of the numbers 2 and 5 (part of 205). The S shape is the cover of a rock album and the title of a book by Hesse.
HESSE: In this image Hesse is predominant because he appears in the vertical strings in a higher number than Gandhi (Calcutta). The waves try to recreate the spectrum of colours (spectrum yellow) and the heartbeat of a human being (excitement). At the background 20 and 5 pound notes can be taken as a representation of the number 205.
SPECTRUM YELLOW: in this composition the yellow is the predominat colour. Also Calcutta is present with the lotus flower, a menaingful flower of the Indian culture. Hesse is represented by the Indian building, being him the author of famous books set in India.I tried to portray excitement through lights and fire. I wasn't able to allocate any visual for the number 205.
