My work makes enquiries about the human condition. Themes of memory, gender and identity are explored through the process of painting, printmaking and photography.
The 'Bodyscape' series bridges a gap between traditional printmaking and lens-based media. My love of history has led me to experiment with traditional photographic processes, in particular cyanotype also known as blueprint. With this photochemical process, I have incorporated both modern day and Victorian technologies.
I utilise acetate film to make digital transparencies and a formula of light sensitive solution that was first introduced by John Herschel in 1842. The paper is exposed to ultraviolet light and a chemical reaction generates an insoluble Prussian blue.
Abstract forms are deliberately ambiguous with distortions and imperfections allowing for a more complex reading of the body.
