A final for my drawing class dealing with symbolism and composition. The piece focuses on the Anemoi, which are the Greek wind gods, and the transition of seasons (specifically, summer to winter). So the figure on the horse is Boreas, the god of the northern wind (winter). He is driving a spear down into Notus, who is God of the southern wind(summer). Sometimes the Anemoi are represented as horses, so Boreas' horse is meant to represent Estus, god of the eastern wind (fall). This depiction shows winter coming in on the back of fall and taking/transforming the seasons from a powerless summer into winter. The horse in the back is meant to represent Zephyrus, the god of the western wind (spring) who is just grazing in the back because they aren't really a part of this power shift right now, but the seasons would be incomplete without 'em.
