When thinking of outer space, my mind sometimes wanders to the late 60's when the Soviet Union was in competition with the United States. The Great Space Race. During this era both countries made considerable efforts to rally the people in support of reaching the final frontier. The government utilized postal stamps as a form of propaganda to reach the masses. Such history was the driving force for the creation of my own galactic stamp.
All the texturing, coloring and special effects were applied using Adobe Photoshop. The postmark date is a nod to when my wife and I first started dating. I like putting easter eggs such as this in my artwork.
The original concept was hand drawn with pencil on paper, then imported into Adobe Illustrator. Before I exported the vector shapes to Photoshop, everything was strategically separated onto individual layers to help with detailed selections and masks.
I also produced a 3" vinyl sticker with a die-cut that resembles the edges of a stamp. If you're interested in grabbing one, there's some available in my shop.
