The Pictures Film Festival

The Pictures Film Festival

Inspired by the Scottish phrase for going to the cinema, I have developed the visual identity for a festival which is a celebration of Scottish film - from creative talent to stunning locations. Located in the cinematic heart of Scotland, the festival will be held at GFT in Glasgow as the city has long history with cinema. I have created a fresh and playful design using the shapes of iconic Glasgow buildings to inform the pattern including Glasgow School of Art, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the GOMA. This is paired with a bold colour palette with the aim of attracting and introducing new audiences to the best of Scottish cinema.

The main desire for the identity of the festival is to celebrate not only our great cinema but also the people of Scotland. Throughout the festival programme, you can find  'an honest Scots review' of the films being screened. So to describe the plot of Gregory's Girl you then get - 'He was really ge'in it lady tae get the girl'. It's a simple message, encouraging playful interaction and conversations that reflects the well loved character of Scotland.
