D&AD Monotype - HAFU

HAFU (ハーフ)
D&AD - Monotype Brief.

"Hafu"; Denoting a person as being biracial, most usually half - Japanese.

Monotype challenges you to embody and express the importance of cultural diversity through a typography-led solution or campaign.

In a brief with such focus on togetherness and community, it would be easy to forget those who have none.
In this project decided to start a conversation about the situation of mixed race people living in Japan.

Concept - Make Hafu Whole.
Reimagining the Japanese art of Kintsugi (to repair broken pottery) I created a series of posters using cut outs from foreign maps and Japanese maps to form new typographical land masses. The aim, to highlight the beauty of our differences with the message "make hafu whole" displayed underneath.
