A little Market / a visual exploration
A little Market is a marketplace dedicated to hand-made products. The challenge with the redesign of ALM products was to bring a fresh visual overhaul and keep ALM core values of simplicity and friendliness.
In this route, I wanted to illustrate the concept of the hand-made marketplace by using diversity to give the idea of multiple styles and types of goods. The hexagon shape allows me to create a patchwork, a typical fabric pattern and twist with this shape that recalls the hive and France's shape (products are local hand-made goods with a "made in région" mention).
I wanted to bring a strong fresh air on the product and applied more saturated colors, iconic bold fonts and simple shapes. During this visual exploration, I've also tried to used different types of logos. The result was exceeding the limits of ALM values but helped understand where was the border between trying to be trendy and keeping it real.
I've also explored a more preppy, metropolitan style for ALM. The result was interesting and I found useful using another kind of imagery. This aesthetic didn't reflect our user base and the chic is not our signature, that route was quickly abandoned.
I wanted to use the space to the max and build a relation to hand-made products like an immersive experience. Difficulty was to combine this will with a e-commerce platform basic needs. That route was really appreciated and we decided to bring some of these elements into the final product.
That reseach finally drove me to a simple layout, using strong colors as element of the branding, adding new elements to explain the concept and finally streamline some quircky designs. That general direction were adopted, enriched by some of the previous elements from other routes.
Mercerie means haberdashery, it's a place to find supplies to create stuff. The website had no specific identity and that was a plus to have a look at it. I've used a rational grid with a dotted detail to recall the technical aspect when creating hand-made good.
