The Economist - Human Trafficking

I started this project focusing mainly on the word "trafficking" which made me think of traffic lights. So my first design used a traffic light design of red, yellow and green for the people or victims and then the black part as hands reaching and grabbing the victims.
I soon moved on from this idea and developed my design so that it was still just as conceptual as the first, but focusing more on the money side to human trafficking. The design shows stacks of poker chips with women and children stood on each pile with a figure or player behind them. The concept is that the Traffickers are not only gambling with their lives (as it's against the law) but also with their victims lives.
For the final design I illustrated the mother and children in the traffic light colours because when I think of the word traffic I associate it with traffic lights and these colours. I converted the background and back figure into grayscale to draw focus to the centre of the image.
