I was tasked with writing and designing a schoolyard garden field guide for students to reference in and out of the garden. I was also tasked with designing flash cards for students to play with during the winter months to keep their memories fresh. The field guide had to be easy to construct for teachers and students to print off on their own. I made it so pages and cards are the same and can be printed on standard letter 8.5 x 11 in paper. Micah Wilkins, a fellow schoolyard gardener, helped me write and edit the descriptions on the cards. We also received input from the rest of the schoolyard garden team.

I broke the field guide up into four sections. These sections were created to address students most frequently ask questions.

I created four layouts for the pages. Each page contains basic information on the topic of that page. For garden vegetables, there is the common & latin name, a sensory description, what part of the plant you eat, and some nutritional information along with a fun fact for each crop.
