YUMMY KAMI — Japanese Premium Sake

The topic for my Basic Graphic Course final project in Projector School of Design & Development was making a design for an alcohol beverage. Almost at once I've decided to choose a sake as a type of an alcohol, so all the graphics and overall design would remind of Japanese culture & traditions.

Religion means a lot for Japanese people, that's why I've decided to place an emphasis on it in my project. Making of one single design seemed easy and boring to me. As a result I've chosen 3 types of sake and made 3 designs — each one has its own colors, pattern, main graphic element and name. But let's start with general naming and the way a religion can be connected with each sake type.

Shinto, a Japanese ethnic religion, counts a lot of Gods. Before making the connections between Shinto & alcohol, I've defined 3 types of sake for which I'll make the designs — they are junmai-shu, futsushu and daiginjo-shu. Each of them has its own flavor, target audience & a God that represents the sake itself.
3 Gods that perfectly fit my project and sake types are shown on the image above (from left to right): Sengen — Goddess of Mount Fuji; Bishamon — God of War and Warriors, a punisher of evildoers; Inari — kami of kitsunes (foxes), fertility, rice, tea and sake, of agriculture and industry. Kami (神) in Japanese means "God". Each sake type can be described as "yummy", because all the three sakes have amazing flavor and rich scent. YUMMY KAMI — is the naming I've chosen for this project.
The next step was to connect Gods with graphics. Each design has unique pattern, colors and main graphic element: black & white samurai mask and Japanese Imperial Seal represent Bishamon, red kitsune and a cherry blossom represent Inari, meanwhile white Mount Fuji shows a connection to Sengen and multiple circles form a wave pattern. You may see a small preview of each design above.

This how looks the final designs:
Daiginjo-shu sake (Bishamon)
Junmai-shu sake (Inari)
Futsushu (Sengen)
And that's how YUMMY KAMI may look in a real life:
