A project for self growth
Inspired by an Irish ballad "Red is the Rose" which has been a song favoured in my family for a long time.Close to my heart, a verse has always been in the forefront of my mind and has never left it. I know what you are thinking... roses are red and violets are blue.. I clearly have my flowers mixed up.
The chorus goes : "Red is the rose that in yonder garden grows Fair is the lily of the valley Clear is the water that flows from the Boyne But my love is fairer than any."
I wanted to work as close to monochromatic as I possibly could. I chose blue for practical reasons but also to convey both sadness and calm the song exudes.
Below is a snapshot synopsis of my approach to the project. It being a personal project for practice and development before applying for my HND In Graphic Design.
I wanted to document the process to learn from my mistakes.I also uploaded the progress to my Facebook design page LJW Designs where I could interact with peers in the lead up to my college interview.I believe in showing your work rather than hiding it away where no one will ever see it.This was my way of building my confidence where there was little to begin with but as my picture grew so did I.
This project took over 2 weeks.I hand rendered all four corners to the center and I didn't have a plan.I didn't want a plan i was simply drawing because I wanted to.I did however always have the chorus of my Irish ballad in my head just to keep me on track.
