Abuse in Gender
Acting Portraits of Brian and Jess
Abuse is often stereotyped as the woman as the victim and the man as the abuser, however this is a false reality, where men can abused by woman just as much. Since 2014 there has been a large social increase of feminism, which supports gender equality for gender rights. This is a group of people that deserve large support. Personally I feel there is one issue, men's voice on abuse. Society see's feminism is all for women's rights, which is campaigned much more than males, this shows large inequality in not giving male victims a voice. I photographed this short series of images to express how abuse is something which can happen to any gender, at any age. This includes male adults. The abuse also includes in marriage and relationships, where abuse on men is most often mental and psychological. Physical abuse on men from women isn't thought of as abuse or assault. As an example, a man is slapped in the street by a woman. Another, a woman is slapped by a man in the street. Compare the difference in how society may have acted differently to each situation. This short series is to express how men can be abused just as women, using the medium of portrait photography. This is not any intention to offend women's rights supporters or feminists.
