Jesmonite Sampling - Mould Making

My most recent project looked into the material characteristic of Jesmonite and how they could be exploited and adapted to achieve a variety of effects. Jesmonite is a
water-based, solvent free material with extreme durability and ease of creation as well as being highly affordable in comparison to other moulding mediums. Coming in a range of formulas I decided to work exclusively with AC-100.

Before beginning experimentation a working surface designer, Katie Gillies, gave a hands on tutorial in working with the material and I was able to learn first hand how to create, adapt and work with the material.
From watching Katie and following her instruction my colleagues and I developed a range of samples using a variety of particles, pigments, added materials as well as finishing techniques such as marbling and terrazzo.

Below are the samples I produced:
Following on from the minimal sample palette I created I went on to trial and test 'Jesmonite's Flex Metal' range. This range created some interesting effects, could be high polished or left dull and could be worked into even further like sheet metals.

Timothy Sharman, a representative directly from Jesmonite was able to demonstrate the range along with precise instruction and method. This provided me with the confidence to pursue and develop my skills with the medium.

As well as working with Jesmonite I also expanded my expertise with mould making through a demonstration session with Arthur Manzo, owner of Notcutt material suppliers. Through his guidance I was exposed to a range of resins and silicons and applied this to my own project creating these two moulds perfect for working in conjunction with the Jesmonite.
